A second day in Vancouver – June 14, 2011

We took our time getting up and ready.  Our legs were a little sore from yesterday’s walking but we decided to try to see a bit more of Vancouver this morning.  After breakfast we asked the hotel if we could check out but leave our car in their parking lot.  The staff was so nice and accommodating, saying it would not be a problem.

We zigzagged across town taking Burrard to Smithe to Granville to Robson Street, the main shopping street of Vancouver.  We walked up Robson several blocks and finally made our way over to Coal Harbor once more where we sat on a bench waiting to photograph a pontoon plane landing in Vancouver Harbor.  After that was accomplished we walked along Hastings Street to Gastown once more.  We went into the Hudson Bay Company store for some minor shopping and by then it was time for lunch.  We had a good lunch yesterday eating at Steamworks Pub so we did that again today.  We tried different beers with our meal and were happy with our choices once more.

We did not have the rain we had yesterday but there was a chilling breeze blowing off the water.  We walked back to the hotel taking streets we hadn’t walked before.  We took the car out of the hotel parking lot and were once more navigating our way south through Vancouver.  We drove over the Granville Street Bridge into the suburban towns of South Granville and Richmond, following highways 99 and then 17 into the town of Delta.

This is where we catch our ferry tomorrow morning and we had reservations at a nice motel just blocks from the ferry terminal.  We checked in and, after organizing our suitcases, we took a walk into Delta, an upscale town with manicured lawns and nice shopping areas.  We had a nice meal at Alfa, a Greek-Roman restaurant by their definition.  The food was good and we had some decent Greek red wine while reminiscing about good times living in Greece.
